The lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Abass Adigun (Agboworin), has stated that he does not fear Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, who has recently left the Allied People’s Movement (APM), insisting that the politician has never won his ward since he came to know him in politics.
Agboworin, who made this known during the latest edition of the Open Forum 360 podcast, anchored by Dare Adekanmbi, spoke on political developments, the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the need for the Federal Government to address drug abuse among Nigerian youths.
Speaking on Arapaja’s political influence, the lawmaker dismissed the notion that he posed a threat to him, arguing that his electoral record at the grassroots level did not justify such concerns.
“Truth is, we don’t miss Arapaja in the APM. I don’t fear him because I am an ex-military officer. Since I have known him, he has never won Ward 2, which is his ward. So, why do I need to fear him?” Agboworin said.

His remarks reflected his confidence in his political standing and his belief that electoral performance, particularly at the ward level, should be a key consideration in assessing a politician’s strength.
The lawmaker did not regard him as a formidable political opponent, pointing instead to what he described as the politician’s electoral record in his home ward.
In a related development, Agboworin expressed support for Governor Makinde’s presidential ambition, describing it as timely and presenting the Oyo State governor as a capable candidate to lead Nigeria.
He described Makinde as smart, young and intellectual, adding that the governor possessed the qualities required to become Nigeria’s next president.
The lawmaker’s endorsement places him among political voices expressing confidence in Makinde’s leadership credentials and potential to assume the country’s highest political office.
Makinde, who has governed Oyo State since 2019, has remained a prominent figure in the political landscape, particularly in the South-West, where his administration and political engagements have attracted attention beyond the state.
Agboworin’s assessment of the governor suggests that he considers Makinde’s age, intellect and political experience important attributes for national leadership.
Agboworin, in a related development, raised alarm over drug abuse.
Beyond the political discussions, Agboworin used the podcast appearance to urge the Federal Government to take more decisive action against drug abuse among Nigerian youths.
The lawmaker, who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Narcotic Drugs, warned that the country was facing a serious challenge that required urgent attention from the authorities.
Expressing concern over what he considered the government’s insufficient response, Agboworin described the situation as a looming crisis.
“There is tsunami on top all of us, which the Federal Government is not paying attention to,” he said.
As chairman of the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, Agboworin occupies a legislative position directly relevant to discussions on drug prevention, control and the broader social implications of substance abuse.
His call for government intervention highlights the importance of strengthening public awareness, preventive education, access to treatment and rehabilitation, and enforcement against illegal drug distribution.
His warning on drug abuse, meanwhile, called attention to what he considers an urgent social challenge requiring a stronger response from the Federal Government.
