The member representing Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abass Adigun (Agboworin), on Monday, applauded the mass defection of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).
He describing the development as a reflection of growing confidence in the leadership of Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde.
Agboworin spoke on Monday at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at the Open Tennis Court of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, where thousands of APC members formally joined the APM.
The defectors, led by Ajiboye Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, a personal assistant and loyalist to former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, were drawn from different local government areas across Oyo State.
Agboworin, who attended the event alongside other leaders and candidates of the APM, said the development demonstrated the growing acceptance of the party across the state.
He said the decision by the defectors to join the APM was an indication that political support was increasingly being driven by leadership, performance and the desire for continuity of development in the state.
According to him, Governor Makinde’s leadership has continued to attract people from across political divides, noting that the latest defection further strengthens the APM ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Today’s gathering is significant because it shows that people are looking beyond party labels and paying attention to leadership and what government is doing for the people.
“The movement of thousands of APC members into the APM is a strong indication that more people are identifying with the direction of Governor Seyi Makinde and the vision of our party.
“Makinde’s leadership is attracting more support for the party, and we welcome everyone who believes in the progress and development of Oyo State,” Agboworin said.
The federal lawmaker congratulated the new members of the APM, assuring them that they would be received as partners in the collective effort to move Oyo State forward.
He also called for unity among members of the party, stressing the need for all stakeholders to remain focused on service to the people.
The event, themed “Young, United, Unstoppable (YUU)”, also featured performances by Fuji stars including Alhaji Taye Currency, Alhaji Tiri Leather, Babatunmise, Ododo Emi, Ajao Samson Ajeseun Band and Aare Rasaq Ayanfe, among others.
The gathering was attended by senior government officials, APM leaders, serving members of the National Assembly and Oyo State House of Assembly, commissioners, party candidates and other stakeholders.
