The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, has flagged off the 2025 edition of the National Association of Primary Schools Games and Sports Teachers (NAPSGAST) football competition.

This year’s edition of the football competition has reaffirmed Olatunji’s administration’s drive to nurture young talents through sports.

The flag off, held on Tuesday at Lanase Olukan Community Basic School, Fatusi, witnessed a lively crowd of pupils, teachers, sports enthusiasts, community leaders, and residents who gathered to support the opening ceremony get entertained by the young players.

Engr. Olatunji, who was warmly welcomed by Mogaji Moruf Elelubo and the executives of NAPSGAST, was equally commended for his steady support towards grassroots sports development in the council area.

The opening match between Ayegun Zone and Muslim Ifelodun Zone set the tone for the tournament, with Ifelodun clinching a decisive 3–1 victory.

Speaking at the event, the council boss reiterated that his administration would continue to invest in sports as a key tool for youth empowerment and character building.

“We will continue to prioritize sports in Oluyole in line with the vision of governor Seyi Makinde towards grassroots sports development.

“Our pupils also deserve platforms like this to showcase their talents in sports not just in academic alone,” Olatunji said, while assuring continued support for NAPSGAST and its activities.

NAPSGAST Chairman, Comrade Lateef Adekunle, who led other executive members to appreciate the chairman’s efforts, described Olatunji as “a man of his word,” while praying for divine guidance and greater success in his leadership journey.

According to the organizers, this year’s competition will feature 116 primary schools across Oluyole, grouped into nine zones, with matches scheduled to run over several weeks.

Those in attendance included the PDP Ward 1 Chairman, Alh. Saka Adebayo; Mogaji Moruf Elelubo; Leader of the House, Hon. Taofeek Azeez; councillors; supervisory councillors; and head teachers from various schools.
