The lawmaker representing Oluyole state constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Waheed Akintayo (Ilumoka), has reiterated that safety of people and development of the constituency are his major priorities.
The lawmaker gave assurance while speaking during the town hall meeting organized to broker peace between the residents of Orisunmbare community and quarry company over the blast incident on Friday.
Hon. Akintayo described the incident as very unfortunate one, sympathized with the family of the deceased and the entire community for the loss.
He said that though he was on legislative training when the incident happened, however, could not fold his arms and pretend not to be aware, hence the reason he alerted the House of Assembly to swing into action.
Ilumoka appreciated the leadership of the House and the committees for the timely response, which he said has been yielding fruitful results.
Hon. Akintayo said that though the constitutional duty of lawmaker is to make laws and facilitate projects for the development of his constituency and the state at large, which he said has been doing since he was inaugurated.
The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to the calls and yearnings of the community and Oluyole constituency as a whole, emphasizing that he has been proactive on the issues relating to the progress and development of Orisunmbare community.
He expressed that it took his intervention and efforts for the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde to remove the community from the list of acquisition lands by the state government when he was alerted by the Orisunmbare Community Development Forum (OCDF).
Hon. Akintayo clarified that he has never been informed or received any letter as regards activities of the quarry company as it affecting the community.
He assured them that with intervention of the state assembly, they will start to experience new development.
Baale Orisunmbare community, Chief Zakariyau Oladosu appreciated Hon. Waheed Akintayo and other lawmakers for their efforts in putting the matter to rest by ensuring that due process and strict operational procedures are followed by the company in its activities.
Also in his address, Chairman of the Orisunmbare Community Development Forum (OCDF), Mr. Ayo Akinyemi, who spoke on behalf of the youth, assured that they will continue to maintain peace and promote peaceful coexistence.
He promised to communicate the decisions of the community as regards the SCR for the community to the lawmaker by next week.
The delegation of the House of Assembly at the town hall meeting included Chairman, Committee on Environment, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, Chairman, Committee on Solid Minerals, Hon. Anthony Ogunsola and Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola.
