…As Board Chairman Dr. Fagbemi calls for shared responsibility in building a hunger-free and sustainable world

The Oyo State Hospital Management Board has joined the global community to commemorate World Food Day 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The event, themed “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,” highlights the urgent call for unity in achieving global food security and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi emphasized the importance of collective action in ending hunger and malnutrition.

He described food as more than just sustenance, “It is life, dignity, and connection,” he said.
“Every meal tells a story of the hands that sowed the seeds, the families who worked the fields, and the communities that depend on the harvest,” Dr. Fagbemi noted.
“Yet today, millions still face hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity. In a time of abundance, this reality is unacceptable. Good food is not a luxury but it is a right.”

Dr. Fagbemi called for stronger partnerships among farmers, nutritionists, governments, organizations, and individuals to build food systems that are resilient, inclusive, and sustainable.
He stressed the need to empower smallholder farmers with access to technology, fair markets, and climate-smart agricultural practices.
He further highlighted key priorities for achieving food security: ending hunger by ensuring access to healthy food for all, Promoting sustainable agriculture through eco-friendly farming, Strengthening global food systems to guarantee long-term food security, and encouraging proper nutrition and healthy eating habits across all communities.
Dr. Fagbemi urged citizens and stakeholders to work “hand in hand” in reducing food waste, protecting natural resources, and making nutritious food accessible to everyone.
“Achieving food security is not only about ending hunger,” he added.
“It is about ensuring peace, protecting our planet, and giving every human being the opportunity to thrive. Let us stand united for a world where no one is left hungry, where every child grows strong, and where our planet flourishes alongside our people.”
Oyo State Hospital Management Board’s World Food Day celebration marks a first-of-its-kind initiative within the state’s health sector in reinforcing the commitment of the Oyo State Government to health, nutrition, and sustainable development.
