As a way to commemorate 2025 World Breastfeeding Week which celebrates every first week of August.


The wife of Oyo State governor, Engr Mrs Tamunomini Olufunke Makinde joined the world to celebrate 2025 World Breastfeeding Week in grand style as she presented breastfeeding mothers with food items and cash gifts in Egbeda local government.
Her Excellency, who was represented by the honourable commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi said, this year’s theme,”Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support System” calls attention to the importance of building strong long-lasting networks that ensure all families have support they need to breastfeed successfully”.

“The theme aimed to promote the enabling environments to help women to breastfeed including support of the community and workplace with adequate protections in government policies and thanks to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE for approved six months maternity leave to nursing mothers” said the commissioner.


Commissioner for Health stressed that,”Breastfeeding serves as a critical foundation for lifelong health, which provides infants with ideal nutrition, boosts immunity, and strengthens the bond between mother and baby”.

The secretary to Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Muideen Babatunde Olatunji, implored the nursing mothers to adhere strictly to baby exclusive for six months up to two years as it has a lot of benefits to the child such as, it provides optimal nutrition and antibodies, reduces the risk of infection and supports physical recovery after childbirth.
Speaking at the programme, the Executive Chairman of Egbeda local government, Hon Sanda Sikiru Oyedele said that the initiative of this year world breastfeeding week reflects the government unwavering commitment to educate, demonstrate, and inform breastfeeding mothers the benefits of given their children pure breastmilk without mixture.

In his vote of thanks, Hon Sanda described the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde and his wife, Engr Mrs Tamunomini Olufunke Makinde for deem it fit to bring this rare opportunity to Egbeda local government and appealed to people of the council not to relent in supporting the present administration in Oyo State.
The programme had in attendance of dignitaries which include; Commissioner for special duties, Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi, Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr Muideen Babatunde Olatunji, Executive Secretary to Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Khadijah Alarape, Director of Nutrition PHC Board, Alhaja Akande, Director of Food, water and Laboratory service, Hon Ibrahim Oladebo simple, vice chairman, Egbeda LG, Alhaja Monsurat Abiola Sanda, wife of Egbeda LG chairman, Hon Olusola Olakanmi, leader of the house, Oba Sulaiman Oladepo, Alajia of Ajia-Olorungbiji, Baale Oluwo, political office holders, Heads of departments, health workers and nursing mothers.
