As the nation gears toward the conduct of the 2027 general elections, a renowned Yoruba group, Majeobaje has justified the reason why President Bola Tinubu must be voted in for the second term in office.

The group, at a press Conference in Ibadan on Monday submitted that Tinubu in the past two and half years has made meaningful impacts in all the sectors of the economy.

Speaking on behalf of other members of the group, Chief Akintayo Akin-Deko stated that aside stabilising the economy, the present administration has been able to arrest the reported insecurity nationwide.

He noted that insecurity, which began with “armed herdsmen terrorising the countryside and kidnappings in urban areas around 2014,” had by 2019 escalated into ” rampant killings by IPOB gunmen, bandits and terrorists.”

He added that the terrorists are believed to have links to Islamic jihadists, and the US Army has now also threatened to invade Nigeria to protect Christians.”

“The situation required Nigerians to “stand firm and wholeheartedly embrace the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Tinubu had demonstrated “bold and technocratic leadership” in addressing systemic problems.

“Whatever the misgivings in 2023—and there were many—President Tinubu has since proven that he is indeed the much-desired leader to set Nigeria back on the road to sustainable growth and development,” he said.

The group which described President Tinubu as a “trained accountant, former multinational executive, and two-term governor of Lagos State added that his background had enabled him to function as “a professionally sound technocrat, who understands governance, appreciates the conditions that attract foreign private investment, and is above all, a problem-solver.

Akin-Deko stressed that Majeobaje, which he described as “a non-partisan, non-government organisation made up of gentlemen farmers, professionals, academicians and businessmen,” had long advocated region-based development and good governance.

He said Tinubu’s first two years in office had shown alignment with these long-standing priorities, saying that, “The actions of President Tinubu show that he possesses the vision and the skills of a seasoned technocrat, but the country’s detractors are pushing back hard.”

He said citizen groups such as Majeobaje had a duty to “testify to the undeniable value of the Tinubu government,” noting that the organisation had therefore resolved to “publicly declare our unflinching support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

On the economy, the group cited the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira in 2023 as difficult but unavoidable decisions taken to avert “the brink of bankruptcy.”

Akin-Deko said, although these measures caused immediate hardship, but eventually led to a “huge financial windfall to government at all levels,” with FAAC allocations rising from “N655 billion in April 2023 to N2.1 trillion in September 2025.”

He added that this increase had given state governors and local government chairmen “unprecedented amounts of money” to drive development, while President Tinubu’s allocation of “N6.9 trillion in the 2025 budget for constituency projects” provided legislators with “the most targeted funding Nigerians have ever had.”

He emphasised the need for citizens to hold public officials accountable for the use of these resources.

The group also highlighted the significance of the South-West Development Commission (SWDC), signed into law by the President on 24 March 2025, with an initial allocation of N674 billion.

Chief Akin-Deko said the development would “enable true federalism to become the mechanism for unfettered regional development.”

The group criticised what it described as opposition to the administration’s reforms from “economic rapists and their foreign backers,” urging Nigerians to avoid actions that could “reverse the steady gains being made by the current government.”

On security, Chief Akin-Deko said the Tinubu administration inherited “a greatly compromised national security landscape” and cited the arrest of Iskilu Wakili in Oyo State in 2021 and the 2022 massacre of worshippers in Owo, Ondo State, as reminders of past failures.

He condemned instances where security agents were accused of colluding with terrorists, and criticised the former Inspector-General of Police for banning shotguns for licensed hunters “while herdsmen were thereafter spotted moving around with AK47 machine guns.”

He stressed that President Tinubu had taken firm measures to confront the situation, including increasing defence spending from “N1.55 trillion in 2023 to N6.57 trillion in 2025,” recruiting and training more personnel, and restructuring security architecture for better coordination.

He noted improvements following the establishment of the revamped National Forest Guards and their state-level counterparts.

Responding to former US President Donald Trump’s recent comments describing Nigeria as a country perpetrating genocide against Christians, the group said the claims were “prejudicial and exaggerated.”

Chief Akin-Deko acknowledged attacks on Christian populations in some states but insisted that the situation was “nowhere near” the characterisation presented.

He warned that foreign powers often used such narratives as “subterfuge” to justify interference and exploitation.

Chief Akin-Deko added that Trump’s remarks nonetheless provided an opportunity for Nigeria to reflect on its challenges and strengthen unity.

“If only our political leadership could rise above enlightened self-interest,” he said, the moment could become “a godsent opportunity” for national reconciliation based on ”justice, fairness and equity.”

The group also urged tougher action against terrorism, saying past governments’ reluctance to expose perpetrators had fuelled “allegations of official complicity.”

Chief Akin-Deko said, “Enough of this tolerance of lawlessness. The only effective response to these evil people and their backers is uncompromising force through the powers of the state.”

He called on President Tinubu to “hurry up and secure our nation” by disarming and prosecuting terrorist groups and their sponsors, including individuals “fingered in the famous UAE report.”

He further highlighted concerns about youth radicalisation, from almajiri children to armed groups in the Niger Delta and the “growing menace of Area boys across the South-West.”

The group appealed to Nigeria’s allies to mobilise more support for the country’s fight against insurgency, arguing that sustained security was essential for economic progress.

Majeobaje said President Tinubu had “shown in just two years that he is ready, willing and able to implement radical policies that can make Nigeria great again.”

It rejected any calls for coups or foreign intervention, stating that opposition parties lacked the leadership attributes required at this time.

The group, therefore, urged citizens to support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, expressing confidence that with a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly and the states, constitutional reforms could be achieved.

“We therefore urge Nigerians to embrace President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and, come 2027, support his second term bid,” Chief Akin-Deko
