Since assuming office, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has championed the “Omituntun” slogan, which translates to “a new dawn” in the Yoruba language.

This slogan has not merely been a catchphrase; it symbolises the governor’s commitment to revitalising various sectors within the state, with water rejuvenation being a cornerstone of his administration.

The water supply system in Oyo State had long been plagued by inefficiencies and neglect. Many areas, particularly rural communities, faced chronic water shortages, leading to a public outcry for sustainable solutions.

Recognising the urgency of the situation, Governor Makinde took decisive action to overhaul the moribund water system.

His administration prioritised investment in infrastructure, technology, and human resources to ensure that every citizen has access to clean and potable water.

A significant step in this initiative was the appointment of Elias Adeojo as the Chairman of the Oyo State Water Corporation.

Adeojo, a young and dynamic leader, embodies the spirit of innovation that the Makinde administration seeks to foster. With a background that blends youthful energy and a commitment to public service, Adeojo has emerged as a key player in the water rejuvenation project.

His appointment signaled a new era for the state’s water management, instilling hope among residents who had long suffered from inadequate water supply.

Under Adeojo’s leadership, significant strides have been made across major regions of Oyo State.

His efforts have been particularly noticeable in urban centers like Ibadan and Ogbomoso, where he has implemented strategies that not only repair existing infrastructure but also expand access to underserved areas.

Currently, the focus is shifting toward providing potable water in Iseyin and other parts of Oke Ogun, where access to clean water has been historically limited.

The synergy between Governor Makinde and Chairman Adeojo is palpable. Together, they have crafted a coherent strategy to tackle longstanding water issues, ensuring that projects are not only visionary but also executable.

Regular meetings and collaborative planning sessions have allowed them to align their goals and address challenges swiftly.

This partnership has fostered an environment where innovative solutions can flourish, and community feedback is actively sought to tailor initiatives to the needs of residents.

Moreover, the impact of their joint efforts extends beyond mere access to water. Improved water supply has led to enhanced public health, economic development, and an overall uplift in the quality of life for citizens.

With clean water, communities experience reduced incidences of waterborne diseases, which have been a significant burden in the past. Additionally, better water infrastructure supports local businesses and agriculture, driving economic growth in the region.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s Omituntun slogan has transcended rhetoric to become a powerful catalyst for change in Oyo State’s water sector.

The appointment of Elias Adeojo as the Chairman of the State Water Corporation has played a pivotal role in this transformation.

As they continue to work in tandem, the rejuvenation of Oyo’s water system serves as a testament to the promise of a new dawn, one where clean, accessible water is no longer a luxury but a fundamental right for all residents.
