Vigilance: Oyo Lawmaker Hon. Comforter’s Swift Action Prevents Disaster In Dejo Oyelese Area

The whole country was thrown into frenzy after the ill-fated Explosion which robbed the inhabitants of the DEJO-OYELESE Area of Old Bodija of their places of abode where death casualties were also recorded. The sad event occurred on Tuesday, the 16th of January, 2024.

After The cause of the explosion was observed to be due to ineptitude behaviour from some illegal miners,

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi MAKINDE coined the catchphrase #SeeSomethingSaySomething whereby citizens are expected to SPEAK OUT and be proactive whenever they see or hear things that can be of negative effects to the lives and property of the good people of Oyo State.

This exactly was the swift action of a serving State Lawmaker in Oyo State, representing Ibadan North Constituency 1 at the Oyo State House of Assembly,

Hon. Dr. Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olajide at the Wee Hours of Monday, 5th of February 2024 when she observed a rising bush burning which almost grew out of hands (She was actually supervising some clearing and repairs being carried out at the site of one of her own property that was gravely affected by the Explosion when she saw the fire).

The bush burning happened to be at the back of the AGODI Gardens which links the DEJO-OYELESE AREA where the unfortunate Explosion occured around 3 weeks ago.

Like the proverbial ‘Fire in Harmattan’, the effects would have been devastating had it not been for the proactiveness of the AARE-YEYELUWA of IGBARO KINGDOM by alerting the Residential Area’s Security Outfits.

She raised the awareness by making calls to the Oyo State Fire Service Station, the Commissioner of Police, the Operation Burst and Amotekun.

The combined forces of the aforementioned made it possible the fire to be quenched around 10:30pm after it had begun around 6:30pm.

This swift action by the Honorable and the Rescue team is commendable and it only shows that the future of Oyo State is bright since we had begun to put into practice the Catchphrase of Gov. Seyi MAKINDE #SeeSomethingSaySomething.

One of the eyewitnesses, a certain Mr. Ayodeji Kolawole appraised the Lawmaker for her quick intervention.

In his words he said “I commend the person of Hon. Comforter for being so proactive with her intervention to avert a major disaster which would have befallen our beloved estate as we haven’t recovered from the happenings caused by the ill-fated Explosion of January.

I also commend the swift response of the law enforcement agents and fire fighters who were able to put out the fire before properties were affected”.

Hon. Dr. Comforter Olajide in her own remarks deflected the praises to the officers on ground to ensure the fire was out before they left.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, the Agodi Police Area Commander, the DPO of Bodija Station, the State Commandant of the Amotekun were all present and STAYED till the fire was put out by the brave fire fighters.

She referred to them as the real heroes and the synergy with which they worked together to see to the success of the situation is really commendable.
