Oyo Lawmaker, Bisi Oluranti Attends UN Session on Women in the Society in New York
Lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North Constituency, Hon Bisi Oluranti Oyewo Micheal has called on women not to allowed the sense of entitlement to deprive them of their right and function as strong pillar in the society.
The lawmaker is participating at the ongoing 68th Session of the United Nations Commission where the status of women in the society was review and updated.
Also the UN session were attended by Hon Mrs Toyin Balogun Oyo state commissioner for Women affairs and others and Mrs Hajara Tola Adedibu, Special assistant to the governor on liason office Abuja.
Sharing her experience at the session, Hon Bisi said apart from review on the status of women, participants also shared their experiences on gender equality and women empowerment which further exposed her to a lot on issues relating to women in the world.
“It was an opportunity to learn new things, make new contacts and very soon i will be making use of the knowledge acquired and contacts to impact our people in Oyo state, by working with relevant ministry, agencies and non governmental organizations to review and update the status of women in Oyo state and how to make them independent and be effective in the society.
She said “As women we should be partners in progress and not dependant and this can easily be achieved when we challenge the statusquo by being proactive and make meaningful contributions in the society.
Hon. Bisi who is the chairman House of Assembly committee on tourism commemded Gov Seyi Makinde for considering more women in his administration, we are hoping for more appointments for women in the state
