The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to addressing the shortcomings of previous administrations through initiatives such as the student loan program.
Bwala made this remark in response to a recent interview by Nigerian music star Panshak Zamani, popularly known as Ice Prince, on the Listen podcast.
During the interview, Ice Prince shared a heartfelt story of how financial struggles derailed his dream of attending university. He revealed that he lost an admission opportunity due to his inability to raise N20,000 within the required time frame.
“I was the guy that spent at least three weeks at home every term because of school fees. I didn’t go to the university because of N20,000. I had about two weeks to pay that money, but I couldn’t raise it on time,” Ice Prince recounted.
Reacting to this, Bwala posted on X (formerly Twitter) that President Tinubu’s student loan initiative is designed to ensure that no Nigerian youth is deprived of higher education due to financial constraints.
“He knows government has failed you in the past, but the student loan, like every other initiative of the Renewed Hope administration, is here to put smiles on your faces and take significant burdens off of our parents,” Bwala wrote.
Bwala emphasized that the initiative, managed by the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), enables children from all backgrounds, including those of market women, farmers, and artisans, to access quality education and compete favorably with the children of elites.
“This is one of the ideals of the Renewed Hope administration,” Bwala added, underscoring the government’s resolve to provide equitable educational opportunities for all Nigerians.
The student loan program has been lauded as a progressive step toward bridging the education gap in Nigeria, giving hope to millions of young Nigerians who might otherwise be excluded from higher learning due to financial challenges.
