THUGGERY AND CULTISM, BUT RATHER ENGAGE IN SPORTING ACTIVITIES… OGUNDEJI ADVISES

The Political Head Administrator of Ibadan South Local Council Development Hon. Ogundeji Teslim Adekunle has enjoined Secondary School Students to desist from engaging in any activities associated with Cultism and thuggery that can jeopardize their good dreams, ambitions and also urged them to focus on their studies and engage in some of sporting activities that can add more values to their lives and make them become an important personalities in future.
This word of advice was made during the National Campaign program on Cultism organized by Ibadan South LCDA for Secondary school students held at open Treasury Hall of the Council.

Council Boss said that today’s youth are tomorrow leaders in which the mantle of leadership of tomorrow will be handed over to, and in order to make them to be of good character and responsible persons among their peers all hands must be on desk.
Hon.Ogundeji used the medium to suggest some of programs he thought could be included in the school curriculum that can curb or reduce the menace of cultism and hooliganism in our various schools in the state capital and other cities.In his words,”There is need to open a rewarding street sports programs for the young people to keep them busy, make a blossoming career out of it, this will make them shun cultism before it becomes dangerous and consuming the human asset we expected from them.

He added that this initiative will create job opportunities and make them fulfilling youths. He highlighted some of the sporting activities they may be engaged on, like; street table tennis, training and competitions, street soccer training and competitions, street spirit training and competitions and the other sporting activities.
The Facilitator and Guest Speaker, Dr. Femi Micheal, emphasized that the campaign program was initiated by the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde to stop the activities of Cultism and other forms of thuggery and hooliganism among Secondary School Students in Oyo state. According to him, “Cultists are not students but criminals in the schools and they will be expelled from school if caught. He advised the students to be more careful of the types of friends they keep.
The Acting Head of Local Government Administration, HLGA, Ibadan South LCDA , Alhaja Rashidat Olanrewaju urged the teachers to change some of their system and use a friendly mode approach in teaching the students,and encouraged everyone of them to join good clubs like literary and debating, Rotary and Religious based groups, and they should refer those who are not serious to the school councillor for counselings.
In her closing remarks,the secretary to the council,Mrs Bose Akande urged the teachers to report any act of hooliganism and thuggery in their school to the security agent for necessary actions.
Students from Secondary Schools within the LCDA were represented at the program. The Assistant Secretary for the LCDA, Mrs Bose Akande, the Acting HLGA, Alhaja Rashidat Olanrewaju,Acting DAGS,Alhaji M.O Ogundele,Acting Director of Finance,Mr Rufus Babalola, Acting Director Education and social services,Mr Abideen Olayiwola, teachers and officers from the LCDA were among the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
