Stop Blackmailing Our Senator,’ Ogun Students Warn Over Yayi Transformer Controversy

The Yayi Student Vanguard has condemned what it described as a calculated attempt by political opponents to tarnish the image of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, over his recent transformer distribution project in Ogun State.

The group, in a statement signed by its Convener, Comrade Olanose James A., faulted the calls by certain individuals urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to probe the project.

According to the statement, such calls were “laughable” and only reflected “political bitterness and hypocrisy” among those envious of the senator’s achievements and growing popularity.

“This is not corruption, it is compassion. Senator Yayi facilitated those transformers through legitimate channels to bring light to his people, not for self glory. Only the blind will call a good gesture a crime,” the group stated.

The students’ body alleged that the petitioners and their sponsors were “driven by desperation and fear” as the 2027 election season draws closer, noting that the senator’s developmental strides have continued to unsettle his critics.

“Let’s say the truth, those shouting ‘investigation’ are simply frustrated because they cannot match his impact. While others are busy making noise on radio and social media, Yayi is making a difference in the lives of real people. That’s the problem they have with him,” the statement added.

The Vanguard recalled that during the official flag-off of the transformer distribution on August 10, the senator’s media adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, had publicly clarified that the transformers were facilitated through government channels and not personal gifts.

“Those spreading lies should at least do their homework. Chief Odunaro’s statement has been public from day one. Nowhere did the Senator say the transformers were his personal property. He simply facilitated them for his people, and that’s what true representation means,” the group stressed.

They further described the transformer project as part of Senator Adeola’s continuous commitment to grassroots development, which includes electrification, road construction, scholarships, and youth empowerment across Ogun West.

“They want him distracted, but we say no. Senator Adeola must stay focused. These are the tactics of bitter men who fear progress. You can’t fight light and expect darkness to win,” the statement continued.

The group reaffirmed its loyalty to the senator and urged him to ignore political blackmail, emphasizing that his record of performance speaks louder than propaganda.

“We in the Yayi Student Vanguard are not just observers, we are witnesses. We’ve seen how his projects transform lives. Those calling for probes should instead probe their own consciences. Ogun people are not fools, we know genuine service when we see it,” the group said.

The students concluded by describing Senator Adeola as “the pride of Ogun West,” insisting that no amount of misinformation can erase his legacy of performance and people-centered representation.

“Let the hired attackers keep ranting. History will remember who brought progress and who brought propaganda. Yayi remains the pride of Ogun West, and no amount of lies can dim that truth,” the statement concluded.
