Ibadan, July 11, 2025 — Persons with disabilities (PWDs) across Ibadan North Federal Constituency gathered on Friday, July 11, for a crucial stakeholders’ meeting aimed at discussing inclusive political participation, welfare, and support for the forthcoming by-election.

The meeting, which held at the Ibadan North Local Government Party Secretariat, witnessed an impressive turnout of stakeholders representing various wards within the constituency. It served as a platform to voice collective concerns, appreciate ongoing government efforts, and unite behind a shared political agenda.
Among the notable dignitaries in attendance were Hon. Wasiu Nurudeen, popularly known as Oba Aro and Special Adviser on Disability Matters; Hon. Juliana Nwachukwu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Ibadan North Local Government Affairs; and Hon. Musa Akinsawe, a former Caretaker Supervisor Councillor. Their presence underscored the strategic importance of the gathering.

In his welcome address, Hon. Wasiu Nurudeen commended the attendees for their commitment to advocacy and expressed heartfelt appreciation to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his inclusive approach to governance.

> “Governor Makinde has given many persons with disabilities a new lease of life through appointments and employment opportunities. Many who had lost hope have found purpose again. We are deeply grateful,” he said.

Hon. Nurudeen, however, urged political leaders to do more for the disabled community, emphasizing the need for empathy and not sympathy.
> “We are not beggars. We are citizens. We do not need handouts, but opportunities, employment, sponsorship. A person with a disability votes with the same power as anyone else. We deserve equal treatment,” he asserted.

He called on all members present to mobilize and work diligently for the election of Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle DON in the forthcoming by-election, describing him as a compassionate and God-fearing individual who has consistently demonstrated generosity and fairness to all.
Hon. Juliana Nwachukwu also spoke passionately in support of Hon. DON, describing him as a seasoned and committed leader.
> “Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle DON is experienced and deeply committed to service. I urge everyone, including those who may feel aggrieved about how he emerged, to let go of the past and give their full support. We must unite for the good of our constituency,” she said.
A major resolution from the meeting included a directive to all stakeholders to begin the collation of accurate data of PWDs in their respective wards for proper documentation and future planning.
Additionally, it was agreed that a full-scale campaign in support of Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle DON would officially commence on August 2nd, 2025.
The meeting ended with renewed energy and a shared commitment to ensuring a brighter and more inclusive future for persons with disabilities in Ibadan North.
