Southwest Zonal Executive, Reaffirms Unity and Readiness for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest zone today officially inaugurated its newly elected zonal executive members, marking a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections. The executives were elected during the zonal congress held on April 16, 2025, in Oyo State.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Ibadan, drew notable attendance, including the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and his Osun State counterpart, Senator Ademola Adeleke. Also present were the PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, as well as several prominent party leaders from across the six southwestern states.

Speaking during the event, the PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, expressed optimism about the party’s future in the region. He emphasized that the Southwest PDP is now better positioned than ever, thanks to what he described as “a unity of purpose” among its leadership.

“The inauguration of our new zonal executive is more than just ceremonial—it formalizes the mandate entrusted to us by our distinguished delegates,” Atofarati said. “We are here with a clear vision to steer the party toward electoral victories and enhanced public trust.”

He further stated that the PDP in the Southwest is ready to host the party’s presidential ticket in 2027, asserting that the leadership is focused on rebuilding the party through unity and advocacy for good governance.

“Our success will be defined by the strength of our relationship with the Nigerian people,” he noted. “The PDP remains not just the largest opposition party, but the only credible hope for Nigerians. We will continue to speak against injustice, inequality, and poor governance, regardless of religious or ethnic sentiments.”

In his remarks, the newly inaugurated Zonal Chairman, Barr. Kamarudeen Ajisafe, commended party stakeholders for their commitment, singling out Governors Makinde and Adeleke for their “unwavering leadership that has kept the party strong despite distractions.”

The inauguration signals a renewed sense of purpose within the PDP’s Southwest zone as it sets its sights on national relevance and electoral success in the coming political cycle.
