For Immediate Release

The Southern Women Empowerment Forum (SWEF) is deeply concerned over the continued withholding of constitutionally due Local Government allocations to Osun State. This situation is crippling basic services, deepening hardship, and stalling grassroots development in health, education, and local infrastructure.

Under Section 162 of the 1999 Constitution and in line with the Supreme Court’s July 11, 2024 judgment affirming Local Government financial autonomy, these funds must flow directly to councils without delay or political interference. Communities in Osun depend on these allocations for primary healthcare, clean water, feeder roads, and social welfare programs. Withholding them violates constitutional guarantees and inflicts unnecessary suffering on ordinary Nigerians.

We therefore urge the Presidency and all relevant federal fiscal authorities to:

1. Release all withheld Osun LG funds immediately and ensure continuous, timely disbursement.

2. Publish a transparent schedule of all allocations and releases.

3. Enforce strict compliance with constitutional and judicial directives on LG autonomy to prevent future bottlenecks.

SWEF remains non-partisan and committed to the wellbeing of women, children, and families. Unlocking these funds now is urgent to restore hope, trust, and functionality at the grassroots.

With highest respect, we appeal to the Federal Government to act swiftly in the interest of Osun people and constitutional order.

Hon. Dr. Helen Taiwo Adebakin

Southern Women Empowerment Forum (SWEF)
