In his efforts to mitigate the hardships of the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government, the lawmaker representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, Hon. Makanjuola Smato, has commenced the distribution of palliatives to his constituents.

Announcing the distribution of the items at Mayin village on Thursday, the lawmaker noted that the palliatives were from constituency project allocation, adding that the items were evenly distributed to people irrespective of political affiliation, tribe or faith.

Smato, who is the chairman House Committee on Friendship Group Pakistan and Deputy chairman of the House Committee of Solid Minerals at the Nigeria Green Chamber, stated that the palliatives were distributed to the Muslim and Christian associations in Ogooluwa and Surulere, as well as to those who had less privilege, NUT in Ogooluwa and Surulere, Traditional Rulers in Ogooluwa and Surulere, and artisans, among others.

Recall that President Tinubu had approved the distribution of trailers’ load of food materials to National Assembly members through the ministry of Agriculture.

While addressing journalists after the distribution, Hon. Smato thanked his supporters for putting their trust in him to represent them.

He also promised to never betray their confidence and to always be honest with them when there is federal government support.

The lawmaker, who said he swiftly commenced the distribution among his constituents, however stressed the importance of transparently publicizing the allocation process to counter misinformation and positively highlight the government’s efforts.

The lawmaker added that he will continue to look back and give back to his constituency to relieve them of the present economic hardship, adding that the food distribution was not a one-off programme but a continuous one of constituency project.

One of the beneficiaries commended the lawmaker for his thoughtfulness and transparency saying that the food items came at the right time.

He urged the government to make the food palliative distribution a continuous exercise, adding that people at the grassroots were the most affected by the fuel removal, hence, the need to support them from time to time.
