In a vibrant display of progress and community unity, the people of Lagelu Local Government Area in Oyo State gathered on Thursday to celebrate two transformative milestones:

the commissioning of an Environmental Health Building and the foundation-laying ceremony for a new Local Government Legislative Building.
The historic event, held under the visionary leadership of Hon.Mudashiru Kamorudeen, marked a significant step toward sustainable development and effective governance in the region.

The ceremony, attended by a distinguished array of dignitaries, traditional rulers, and enthusiastic residents, underscored the commitment of the Lagelu Local Government to delivering effective governance to the grassroots.

Among the notable attendees were Elder Fabunmi Kemfab, Oyo-PDP women leader Alhaja Omowunmi Ibitoye, members and staff of Lagelu Local Government, and revered traditional rulers, whose presence added traditional significance to the occasion.

The newly commissioned Environmental Health Building stands as a testament to Lagelu’s dedication to improving public health and sanitation. Equipped with modern facilities, the building is designed to enhance the local government’s capacity to address environmental challenges, promote hygiene, and ensure a healthier living environment for residents.
The project aligns with the Omituntun Governance System championed by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, which emphasizes impactful infrastructure and responsive governance.

Speaking at the commissioning, Hon. Olafisoye Akinmoyede, popularly known as ‘Lafi’ among his constituents, lauded the project as a cornerstone of sustainable development.
“This Environmental Health Building is more than a structure; it is a commitment to the well-being of our people. It will serve as a hub for innovative health and sanitation programs, ensuring that Lagelu remains a model for progress in Oyo State,” he said.
Following the commissioning, the dignitaries proceeded to the site of the new Local Government Legislative Building, where Hon. Akintunde Emmanuel laid the foundation stone amidst cheers from the crowd.
The upcoming legislative complex is poised to strengthen the legislative arm of Lagelu Local Government, providing a dedicated space for councilors to enact bylaws and address community needs effectively.
This project reflects chairman Kamorudeen’s broader vision of empowering local governance structures to deliver responsive and accountable leadership.
Hon. Akintunde, in his address, emphasized the importance of the legislative building in fostering good governance. “This edifice will empower our councilors to work more efficiently, ensuring that the voices of our people are heard and their needs are met. It is a symbol of our commitment to transparency and progress,” he stated.
The event was a celebration of unity, as leaders from different political affiliations, including APC and PDP, came together to support the development of Lagelu. Alhaja Omowunmi Ibitoye, Oyo-PDP women leader, praised the initiative, noting that it strengthens local governance and focuses on the collective good. “Projects like these show that when we work together, we can achieve greatness for our people,” she said.
Traditional rulers present at the event also expressed their support, blessing the projects and encouraging the local government for more. Elder Fabunmi Kemfab, a leader of Peoples Democratic Party, described the day as “a turning point for Lagelu,” emphasizing the role of infrastructure in driving economic and social progress.
The Environmental Health Building is expected to streamline public health initiatives, including waste management, water sanitation, and disease prevention programs, directly benefiting thousands of residents. Meanwhile, the Legislative Building will enhance the efficiency of local governance, ensuring that Lagelu’s development agenda remains robust and inclusive.
