Prince Adelaja Adeoye, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and real estate entrepreneur in Lagos, has declared his ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State on the PDP platform.

In an exclusive interview with BusinessDay Newspapers in Lagos, Adeoye emphasized his vision to deliver transparency, genuine development, and unity to the state, arguing that Lagos has not reached its full potential under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeoye pointed out that since the return to civilian democracy in 1999, Lagos has remained under the control of the same political group, which he believes has exhausted its innovative ideas for transforming the state into a world-class city and a leading economic hub in Africa.

He described the current governance as heavily influenced by APC leader and President Bola Tinubu, leaving ordinary Lagosians and the masses without the true dividends of democracy.”One of the key reasons I am stepping forward is to return power to the people so they can have a meaningful say in how the state is run,” Adeoye stated.

He pledged to prioritize infrastructural development across all parts of Lagos and to support the full domestication of local government autonomy, recognizing local governments as the tier of government closest to the people.Central to his agenda is accountability and open governance.
Adeoye committed to running a transparent administration that welcomes public scrutiny, engages stakeholders in budget preparation to incorporate their inputs, and focuses on critical sectors such as healthcare, education (including scholarships), infrastructure, civil service reform, Security, law and order in Lagos, policy against human rights violation, transportation reform amongst others.

He also addressed the deep divisions among Lagos residents, noting that politicians have exacerbated ethnic tensions, making it difficult for indigenous people and various resident groups to coexist harmoniously. To counter this, Adeoye promised to launch programs that promote unity among indigenes and residents alike, while creating equal opportunities and prosperity for all.

Adeoye’s declaration aligns with broader efforts by PDP figures to challenge APC dominance in the Southwest ahead of 2027, positioning him as a voice for renewal and inclusive progress in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
We will work hard to dislodge the ruling APC and ensure that Babajide Sanwoolu is the last governor on the platform of APC to govern Lagos State.
