Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, alongside directors from the ministry, paid an inspection visit to the Adamasingba Stadium to assess the ongoing rehabilitation of the pitches in preparation for the next season.
During the visit, Honourable Adegoke expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, noting that the rehabilitation work is crucial for the development of sports in the state. She emphasized the importance of providing top-notch facilities for athletes to train and compete.
Honourable commissioner, Adegoke noted that “as we strive to provide world-class facilities for our athletes, it is essential that we prioritize proper turf management. A well-maintained pitch is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it also ensures the safety and performance of our athletes.
“I am impressed with the progress made so far, but I charge the handlers to adhere to the highest standards of quality and completion.
“Furthermore, I direct the sport council maintenance team to work closely with the handlers to ensure a seamless maintenance of the turf. We must adopt a proactive approach to turf management, incorporating regular maintenance, watering, and fertilization to extend the lifespan of the pitch.
In addition to inspecting the pitches, the Honourable Commissioner also toured other sports facilities within the stadium and its environs. She assessed the condition of the facilities, including the athletic tracks, basketball courts, and volleyball courts, to ensure effective management and maintenance as wanted by Governor Makinde who has contributed a lot to sport development in the state.
The inspection visit is part of the ministry’s efforts to upgrade and revitalize sports infrastructure in Oyo State. Honourable Adegoke reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting sports development and providing opportunities for young people to excel in their chosen sports.
The inspection team was accompanied by a high-level entourage, including; Mrs. Olubukola Ajoke Oladipo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. F.A. Raheem, Director of Sport Facilities, Mrs. O.J. Adegoke, Director of Sports, Mr. H.A. Bello, Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr. Akande , General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, Mr. Fadare, Deputy Director of Administration and Supply.
With the pitch maintenance work nearing completion, the Adamasingba Stadium is expected to host various sports events and competitions in the upcoming season, promoting sports excellence and community engagement in Oyo State.
