Earlier on Tuesday, SaharaReporters reported that the FCTA revoked the land allocated to the PDP over 20 years of unpaid ground rents.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has convened an emergency meeting following the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) revocation of its national secretariat land in Abuja.
Earlier on Tuesday, SaharaReporters reported that the FCTA revoked the land allocated to the PDP over 20 years of unpaid ground rents.

The decision was conveyed in a letter dated March 13, 2025, titled, “Notice of right of occupancy with file no: MISC 81346 in respect of plot no: 243 within central area district, Abuja.”

The letter was signed by the Director of Land Administration (FCTA), Chijioke Nwankwoeze.

Nwankwoeze stated that the PDP had failed to pay the required annual ground rents for the property from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025, despite repeated notifications through national dailies and electronic media.
He said, “The revocation is in view of your continued contravention of the terms and conditions of grant of the Right of Occupancy by failing to pay the annual ground rents due on the property for twenty (20) years, from 1st of January 2006 to 1st of January 2025.”
He further cited legal provisions backing the decision, stating, “You would please note that the said breaches by PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), NATIONAL SECRETARIAT (MISC 81346) run contrary to the provisions of Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.”
Reacting to the development, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, condemned the revocation, describing it as “a drive towards totalitarianism and attempt to stifle opposition.”
He stated, “The attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government to revoke the Right of Occupancy of the National Secretariat of the PDP is highly condemnable.
“It is aimed at stifling opposition in this country and, of course, a drive towards totalitarianism. And it is a threat to democracy.”
