Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), has officially denied allegations of extortion, illegal arrest and harassment committed by the Three Wheelers Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter.

The statement was made to rebute the allegations laid against the Oyo State Road Traffic Authority (OYRTMA) by the Three wheelers Association of Nigeria, Oyo state Chapter.

According to OYRTMA, these allegations are entirely baseless and misleading as the agency emphasised its primary goal ensuring free flow of traffic and maintain order on the state roads and not extortion or harassment of citizens.

OYRTMA’s Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (rtd), pointed out that the agency’s operations are guided by the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority Law of 2009, which vested the agency with the responsibility of regulating, controlling, and managing traffic in the state.

The agency urged the public to disregard the allegations, stating that they are committed to serving the people of the state with integrity and professionalism.

The Chairman also encouraged anyone with genuine complaints or concerns to come forward and report them to the agency.

Adesagba stated that the individuals were arrested for illegal parking and contributing to traffic congestion from Mokola roundabout to Adamasingba Stadium, as well as from Mokola to Dandaru.

This added to the existing traffic challenges caused by ongoing road rehabilitation in the Mokola area.

He emphasized that OYRTMA officers are mandated to arrest any vehicle parked illegally that hinders the free flow of traffic.

The Chairman stressed that the agency’s primary goal is to ensure the tree flow of traffic and maintain order on the state roads.

Regarding the allegations of extortion, Adesagba advised motorists to report any officer who engage in such behaviour that refuses to take offenders to the appropriate quarters.

In recent times, OYRTMA has taken steps to enhance traffic regulation across the state, including the recruitment of 500 new officers.

The agency has also launched initiatives to address reckless driving and illegal parking in the state.

The Oyo State Government also reiterated its commitment to supporting OYRTMA in its efforts to maintain law and order and safety on the state’s roads.
