The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Oyo State may soon witness a mass defection, as leaders and members of the party have declared their readiness to follow their former leader, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This declaration was made during the party’s Ibadan/Ibarapa zonal meeting held on Thursday at AC Hall, Adeoyo Road, Ibadan. The event, which drew party executives from across local governments in the zone, marked a turning point for the NNPP in Oyo State.

Addressing members and supporters at the meeting, the state chairman of the NNPP, Mr. Ayobamidele Idowu, emphasized the unwavering loyalty of party members to Olopoeyan, describing him as a steadfast political leader and mentor.
“Alhaji Olopoeyan is a strong political figure who has always guided his followers towards success. We continue to hold him in high esteem, and we are fully prepared to follow his political direction,” Ayobamidele said.

According to him, the collective decision to move with Olopoeyan to the PDP is rooted in the respect and trust he has earned over the years from NNPP faithful across the state.

The zonal meeting, which was convened to deliberate on the party’s future, ended with a unanimous endorsement of Olopoeyan’s leadership. Party leaders affirmed their continued support and expressed confidence in his ability to lead them to greater political relevance under the PDP umbrella.

This move is expected to significantly alter the political landscape in Oyo State, as Olopoeyan remains a prominent grassroots mobilizer and influential figure in South-West politics.
