As Governor Seyi Makinde marks six years in office, Hon. Abiodun Babalola, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North East Constituency 1, has lauded the governor’s transformative leadership, describing him as a “legend in the history of Oyo State.”

In a recent plenary session, Hon. Babalola highlighted Governor Makinde’s significant contributions across various sectors, emphasizing the administration’s impact on security, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic development.
Hon. Babalola commended the governor’s efforts in bolstering the state’s security apparatus, particularly through the establishment and support of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun. He noted that since its inception in 2020, Amotekun has been instrumental in reducing crime rates and enhancing security operations across the state. The lawmaker urged the executive arm to further strengthen the agency by constructing suitable operational stations across all local government areas, a motion he sponsored in the Assembly.

Under Governor Makinde’s leadership, Oyo State has witnessed a revitalization of its healthcare system. The administration launched a comprehensive program to renovate and equip 351 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), with 264 already completed as of March 2025. Additionally, the government addressed the shortage of healthcare professionals by recruiting doctors, nurses, and other essential staff.

In education, the governor’s achievements include the recruitment of thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff, the sole ownership acquisition of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), and the upgrade of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education into a university. These initiatives aim to improve the quality of education and address youth unemployment in the state.

Governor Makinde’s administration has completed over 335 kilometers of roads, with significant projects like the Moniya-Iseyin and Oyo-Iseyin roads enhancing intra-state connectivity. These infrastructural developments have facilitated trade and economic activities, contributing to the state’s economic growth. Oyo State’s economy has expanded from ₦2.75 trillion in 2019 to ₦4.05 trillion in 2022, reflecting the governor’s economic vision.
Hon. Babalola’s praise aligns with sentiments from various quarters acknowledging Governor Makinde’s impactful governance. The governor’s commitment to building strong institutions, such as the signing of the Oyo State Project Monitoring Agency Bill into law, underscores his focus on sustainable development and good governance.

“Governor Makinde’s six years in office have been marked by unprecedented achievements that have transformed Oyo State. His visionary leadership has set a benchmark for governance, and his legacy will be remembered for generations,” Hon. Babalola stated.
As Oyo State looks to the future, the foundations laid by Governor Makinde’s administration continue to inspire confidence in the state’s trajectory towards sustained growth and development.
