Hon. Bisi Oluranti Micheal, the Oyo State lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency, has appealed to the Oyo State government to strengthen security around the residential areas of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso.

She made the appeal on Thursday during a House plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin.

According to Hon. Bisi Oluranti, students have been living in fear following a series of armed robbery incidents.

She explained that the first incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, 6 November 2025 in the university’s residential vicinity, including Under‑G Area and Pastor Bode Twins Hostel.

Narrating that the robbers have repeatedly targeted areas such as Stadium, Adenike and Under‑G, striking almost every night and forcing many students to vacate their rented accommodation, she added that the assailants were armed with guns and machetes, heightening the students’ anxiety and causing mental stress that is detrimental to their studies.

Hon. Michael also noted that on 12 November 2025, the residence of Hon. George Ogunlade, Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government, was raided by a group of suspected herders who arrived in a bus, brandishing machetes and guns. The attack threw the entire community into panic and left residents fearing for their safety after a day’s hard work.

She warned that continual robbery attacks are exposing students and residents to mental distress, post‑traumatic stress disorder, fear and other challenges related to insecurity. The economic activities in the affected areas have also been paralysed.

The lawmaker emphasized the need for Oyo state government to safeguard lives, communities and society as a whole, preserving dignity, well‑being and future potential.

She also urged that confidence in security institutions and systems be boosted, and that fear, anxiety and social unrest be reduced so that individuals can contribute to the economic and social development of Ogbomoso and LAUTECH—a heritage of Oyo State.

Additionally, she called for respect for the fundamental rights to life, safety and security, and for protective measures to be prioritized in order to create a secure, prosperous and harmonious society.

Following a successful deliberation, the House resolved that the executive arm of government should increase the presence of law‑enforcement agents and patrols around student hostels and adjoining communities.

Also install streetlights and CCTV cameras for monitoring and surveillance. Collaborate with LAUTECH authorities to enhance security protocols and create a conducive learning environment.

The House also called on the Landlords’ Association of the affected areas to develop a security structure to protect lives and property.
