In her continuing commitment to people-first governance, Hon. (Dr) Bisi Oluranti Oyewo Micheal (BOOM), Honourable Member representing Ogbomoso North Constituency and Chairperson, House Committee on Culture & Tourism, has put forward a motion to the Oyo State House of Assembly seeking the reintroduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Day and the rollout of a statewide waste management strategy.

The motion, which is scheduled for plenary debate recognises the pressing public health and environmental challenges faced by residents across the state, especially during the rainy season.

BOOM expressed deep concern over the indiscriminate dumping of waste in open spaces, streets, and drainage systems, resulting in flash floods, blocked waterways, and outbreaks of waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid.

In her proposed resolution, Hon. Bisi Oluranti calls on the Executive Arm of Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and in collaboration with Local Government Authorities, to:

✅ Identify locations lacking public trash bins and install them promptly
✅ Implement a structured, timely waste collection and evacuation system
✅ Launch a statewide public sensitisation campaign against illegal dumping
✅ Reintroduce the Environmental Sanitation Day on the last Saturday of each month
✅ Mobilise community leaders, market associations, and youth groups for enforcement and participation

Hon. Bisi Oluranti Oyewo Micheal noted that while civic education is key, it must be supported by visible infrastructure and actionable policies to remain effective
“Clean surroundings are a basic right and responsibility.

By adopting a proactive approach, Oyo State can safeguard public health, reduce flooding, and instill a culture of environmental discipline,” Hon. Bisi Oluranti stated.

The motion further tasks the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to coordinate with Local Government Areas for grassroots implementation and compliance monitoring.

This legislative move by Hon. Bisi Oluranti reinforces her consistent track record of service delivery, policy innovation, and community engagement —

Stay tuned as Hon. Bisi Oluranti continues to push for actionable change, with the people at the heart of every proposal.
