In a bold move to transform the lives of young people, the Oyo State Government, through the State Agency for Youth Development under the Chairman, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, has forged a pioneering partnership with Planet 3r.

The innovative collaboration, which was formalized during a meeting at the Chairman’s office, aims to unleash the potential of Oyo State’s youth by providing them with cutting-edge skills, entrepreneurial training, and mentorship opportunities.

Adejoke Lasisi, the visionary founder of Planet 3r, shared her inspiring story of turning waste into wealth, transforming the lives of numerous young people in the process. Her innovative approach has not only improved her own life but also opened up new avenues for economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.

According to her, Planet 3R is a social enterprise dedicated to converting textile and plastic wastes into eco-friendly products using the 3R ( Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to save our planet Earth by weaving them into innovative items for low and middle-income earners and empower 50,000 youth and women in different communities.

Through its innovative approach, her organization is not only reducing the environmental impact of textile and plastic waste but also creating job opportunities and empowering youth and women while this ambitious initiative aims to establish recycling hubs across Pacesetter State, targeting a 70% reduction in plastic and textile waste

In a nutshell, Planet 3R’s groundbreaking partnership aims to contribute to the circular economy by ensuring its method of conversion does not cause any other environmental hazards, and the use of local equipment makes the products relatively affordable. Reducing the effect of climate change by working towards creating awareness of a green city and a friendly environment, contributing to the SDGs 11 & 13.

In his remarks, on behalf of the state government, Hon. Adebowale expressed his unwavering commitment to supporting innovative initiatives that drive youth empowerment and development.

“Our partnership with Planet 3r marks a significant milestone in our quest to empower the youth of Oyo State, together, we will create a brighter future for our young people, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and entrepreneurial spirit needed to succeed in today’s fast-paced world.”

With the vision to create a sustainable world without textile and plastic waste, the Key highlights of progressive collaborations include:

– Establishing recycling hubs across Oyo State targeting a 70% reduction in plastic and textile waste

– Training 1,050 youth and women in recycling and eco-friendly product creation

– Creating 200 direct jobs for youth and women.

– Reaching over 100,000 residents through grassroots sensitization campaigns.

With this, both parties were on a mission to zero Textile and plastic waste on our streets, create job opportunities, as well as contribute to Oyo State and Nigeria’s economic development and sustainability.

This groundbreaking partnership is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people in Oyo State, empowering them to become active participants in the state’s economic development and environmental sustainability initiatives.
