The International Day of the Girl Child was marked in Oyo State with an interactive session at St. Louis Grammar School, where young girls gathered to share inspiring stories, play games, and discuss vital issues affecting girls’ education and empowerment.

As the Commissioner for Youth and Sports and the first female commissioner in Oyo State, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke joined the event, acknowledging the potential, talents, and strengths of girls while recognizing the challenges they face, including access to education and healthcare.

Hon. Wasilat Adegoke expressed gratitude to the Governor of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support in promoting gender equality and inclusivity. Addressing the young girls, She emphasized that they should believe in themselves and their abilities; pursue your passions and dreams; speak out against injustice and inequality and support one another and lift each other up.

As a woman who has broken barriers, Hon. Wasilat] encouraged the girls to shatter glass ceilings and achieve excellence, working together to create a brighter future where girls are empowered, educated, and enabled to reach their full potential.

  • The United Nations General Assembly declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to recognize girls’ rights and unique challenges worldwide. This year’s theme, “Girls’ vision for the future,” conveys the need for urgent action and persistent hope, driven by girls’ voices and vision.
