It is increasingly obvious that the APC in Oyo State, especially its publicity secretary, is suffering from a dangerous bout of political dementia. Their recent call for the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde over his so-called “aversion” to local government autonomy is not only baseless but exposes the intellectual laziness and desperation within the ranks of the opposition.

Let’s be clear: No state in Nigeria has fully adopted or implemented the Local Government Autonomy as directed by the Supreme Court—not even APC-led states. So, why is the Oyo APC behaving like a lone voice of hypocrisy?
Governor Seyi Makinde has never outrightly condemned Local Government Autonomy. On the contrary, he emphasized a more thoughtful and productive approach. In his words:

“We are not against autonomy, but what is the productivity at that level of government? It is not enough to just wait for Abuja to share money when we could have increased productivity at the local government level. I am for productivity and not just autonomy for the sake of it.”

— Governor Seyi Makinde (April 30th, 2025)

This is a leader speaking with vision. He is calling for empowerment that leads to performance, not political grandstanding. The APC should first address the rot within its own structure and offer credible alternatives, instead of issuing laughable press releases laced with half-baked logic.
This reckless call for impeachment only confirms what many already know—the APC in Oyo State has nothing serious to offer the people except noise and nostalgia for the days of reckless governance.
Governor Seyi Makinde remains focused on delivering good governance, and no amount of desperate propaganda will distract him from that.
The Oyo APC should call on its federal government led administration to stop paying lip-service to the issue of autonomy.
