Oyo Among States Leading In Budgetary Allocation To Education Sector in Nigeria

…as Education Comm. Commends Makinde 21 Per Cent Allocation

Statistics have indicated that Oyo State is one of the subnationals leading in the budgetary allocation to the education sector, nationwide.

According to findings, in the allocation earmarked for next year, the education sector in the state gets N90.6bn, amounting to 21 percent.

The 2024 educational budgetary allocation of both Federal and Subnational Governments, statistics conducted on six states showed that out of the total sum of N300.2 billion proposed by Bauchi State in 2024, N48 billion or 16% is for education; from the total sum of N521.5 billion proposed by Enugu State, N134.5 billion or 26% is for education; from total sum of N434.2 billion proposed by Oyo State, the sum of N90.6 billion or 21% is for education.

Also, from total sum of N199.9 billion proposed by Nasarawa State, the sum of N41.9 billion or 21% is for education; from the total sum of N714.4 billion proposed budget by Delta State, the sum of N46.55 billion or 6% is for education while from the total sum of N454.3 billion proposed by Katsina State, the sum of N64.4 billion or 15% is for education in the forthcoming fiscal year.

The Oyo state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, reacting to the development, commended Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, for allocating 20.88 percent to education in the 2024 budget.

The commissioner, who stated this while speaking with journalists on the development in Ibadan, commended Governor Makinde for aligning with UNESCO standards, saying that the Governor has maintained an unbroken record of allocating huge funds for education.

According to him, with a budget of N434.4 billion, the government has recorded an unprecedented affection for the education sector by allocating N90.664,994.252(20.88 percent).

“This will definitely tackle the menace of underfunding of education in the state and will make the Oyo state education sector become the best among other states.
