Acting Governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, on Wednesday, commissioned Kajola Ultra-modern market in Ogbomoso, stating that the current administration will continue to intensify efforts that will liberalize the economy of the state.
During the official ceremony at Ogbomoso South local government, the acting governor who was accompanied by top government functionaries, said Governor Makinde is prepared and ready to assist the good people of Ogbomoso zone through expansion of the town economy.
He said part of the Governor’s efforts was ensuring that LAUTECH was not grounded by taking over the ownership of the institution to sustain the economy of the town.
He added that the Governor further liberalised the town economy by connecting the Iseyin-Fapote Ogbomoso road which he said was named after late Alao Akala to open up the economy of the state.
The acting Governor however commended the chief of staff, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, for conceiving the idea and realization of the ultra modern market in Ogbomoso, as well as for his effective representation of the zone.
He stated that the Oyo state government is interested in the running of the market to boost the town economy.
While urging the Ogbomoso South Local Government chairman and the good people of Ogbomoso to pay adequate attention to the issue of security, Barr. Lawal noted that a standard market like the ultra modern market must be well secured to prevent miscreants.
Additionally, he asked them to keep the market clean and well-maintained as sales will involve food consumption and an abattoir, among others.
The acting Governor said: “On behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde, I am happy to be here to commission this ultra modern market for the economic expansion of Ogbomoso.
“Our government is prepared and ready to assist our people and will continue to intensify efforts that will liberalize the economy of the state.
“This kind of ultra modern market is the third since the inception of the Makinde administration. The first commissioning of ultra modern market was at Sasa in Akinyele Local Government while the second was Akesan Ultra-Modern Market in Oyo Alaafin.
“The Security of this market place is so important and we must not play with it. Likewise we must ensure absolute cleanliness within the market.
“Let me remind you that we have foreigners in the state parading themselves as miners. You could remember that about 10 trailers were apprehended loaded with lithium around Ogbomoso axis. So, I urge you to cooperate with Oyo government to ensure adequate security of the zone.”
“I am happy to be here, and I thank you all for coming.”
Earlier his remarks, the commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, said that the Kajola Ultra modern market constructed under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde is the first be constructed in Omituntun 2.0.
He noted that the governor had earlier constructed several ultra modern market in Omituntun 1.0 including the modern market at Sasa in Akinyele Local Government and the Akesan Ultra-Modern Market in Oyo Alaafin.
He added that the commissioning of another laudable project which will no doubt enhance business and commercial activities in the State.
Ojo said: “It will interest you to know that the construction of this market which comprises One Hundred and Twenty (120) Lock-up shops, Eighty-Four (84) Open shops, Toilets, Abbattoir and an Administrative Block is an evidence of a promise kept by His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde as one of His administration’s focal point is to develop and promote trade which will ultimately boost the economy of the state.
“To the good people of Ogbomoso, I would like to say that to whom much is given, much is expected. It is your duty to ensure that the project is well-managed and maintained and the aim for which it was constructed is not defeated.
“Without any iota of doubts, I believe the State Government under His Excellency is still on course as regard the four (4) pillars of the Roadmap to Accelerated Development, Omituntun 2.0 which are Economy, Education, Healthcare and Security and I can assure you that the dividends of democracy will be extended to all and sundry.
“On this note, I welcome everyone to this grand occasion and I thank you”
However, during the project presentation by Sydam concept, its spokesman disclosed that the Ultra modern market was constructed within four months and commended the Governor of Oyo state for awarding the contract to the company.
In his brief remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso South Local Government, Hon. Oyedokun Timothy appreciated the presence of the acting Governor noting that his presence made the occasion a memorable one.
“I am very happy and glad that this is happening within my time and I am very happy with the presence of everyone. I hope to also commission project in your various local governments too,” he said.
In his goodwill messages, the majority leader of Oyo House of Assembly, Sanjo Adedoyin, who was represented by the HGLA Ogbomoso South, Mr AA Adeniran, assured that the gigantic project will be well maintained.
On his part, the Onpetu of Ijeruland, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyeniran, who commended Governor Makinde for keeping his words regarding the construction of the Ultra-modern market, said the project is a first phase construction as more would be constructed in Ogbomoso zone.
He equally commended Ogunwuyi for his good work, stating that he has been doing a wonderful job with effective representation.
He added that the local government chairman also deserve commendation for his physical project while urging sons and daughters to be more concerned about the development of the Ogbomoso zone.
He said: “if you are not ready to bring development to this town, you can never be my friend. “So, I urge all sons and daughters of the zone to be contributing to the development of the town rather than flouting wealth anyhow in the town.”

The event was attended by top government functionaries including Chief of Staff, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi; Commissioners; local government chairmen; members of elder and advisory council and host of others.
