Bamidele Akingboye, candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Ondo governorship election, says he is optimistic about winning the poll.
He promised to “rescue his people from poverty and hunger” should he win.
Akingboye voted at polling unit 10, ward 2, Okitipupa LGA of the state.
Speaking after casting his ballot, Akingboye said he anticipates a free, fair, and credible election from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The SDP candidate expressed willingness to concede defeat if the process is transparent.
“I am optimistic to win so as to deliver my people from hunger and poverty. This is one of the reasons why I worked very hard to get the ticket of SDP,” NAN quoted him as saying.
Akingboye lauded INEC’s punctuality and dedication, adding that the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ensured a secure voting process.
He also commended security agents for beefing up security around all polling units, ensuring the safety of INEC staffers and voters.
The candidate added that the voter turnout was commendable. He said he anticipates that more citizens would exercise their right to vote.
Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), are the top contenders in the election.
