Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has achieved significant milestones in the health sector, marking historic improvements since he assumed office. Less than a year upon his emergence into the office of the governor of Oyo State when the unexpected pandemic broke out across the globe, COVID-19 as fondly called.
– During the COVID-19 pandemic, Makinde’s government was proactive in its response. This included setting up isolation centers, increasing testing capacity, and ensuring the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers. The state’s effective management of the pandemic was widely acknowledged.

Healthcare Infrastructure Development
– Makinde’s administration has renovated and upgraded several primary and secondary healthcare facilities of about over 200 across the state and planned to reach the 351 wards as promised, the first of it’s kind and historic. This effort includes the construction and refurbishment of hospitals and health centers, aiming to improve accessibility and quality of healthcare services for residents across the pacesetter State.

Health Insurance Scheme
– The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) was established to provide affordable health insurance for the residents. This initiative has significantly increased healthcare access, particularly benefiting the underprivileged and those in rural areas. The scheme covers a wide range of medical services, ensuring that more citizens can receive necessary treatments without financial burden.

Maternal and Child Health
– Makinde has placed a strong emphasis on maternal and child health. Various programs have been introduced to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. These include free health services for pregnant women, children under five, and elderly citizens. The goal is to ensure safe childbirth and reduce the prevalence of preventable diseases among young children.

Medical Equipment and Technology
– Under Makinde’s leadership, significant investments have been made in procuring modern medical equipment and technologies. This has enhanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities in state-run hospitals, ensuring that residents receive high-quality medical care comparable to national standards

Healthcare Workforce
– The administration has also focused on improving the working conditions and welfare of healthcare professionals. This includes regular training programs, prompt payment of salaries, and incentives for healthcare workers. These measures aim to boost morale and retain skilled medical personnel within the state.

These efforts collectively represent Governor Makinde’s commitment to transforming the health sector in Oyo State, ensuring better health outcomes for its residents and setting a precedent for other regions to follow hence the immediate approval by His Excellency Engr Seyi MAKINDE FNSE given to the newly appointed Chairman into Hospital Management Board of Oyo State, Dr Akin -Fagbemi Stephen on the Recruitment of Consultants, Doctors, Nurses, Others.
