As part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Oyo State, the Oluyole Local Government on Tuesday organised a one day free medical outreach aimed at bringing essential healthcare services closer to residents at the grassroots.

The outreach, slated to hold at the local government Secretariat today, is expected to attract a large turnout of residents who will receive free medical consultations, basic laboratory tests, drugs, and health education sessions.

The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, in a statement, said the initiative was designed to align the council with the vision of the Oyo State @ 50 celebrations by delivering people-focused interventions that have direct impact on citizens’ wellbeing.

He noted that good health remains a foundation for productivity and sustainable development, stressing that the outreach was targeted particularly at vulnerable groups, including the elderly, women, and low-income earners who may not readily access quality healthcare.

“This programme is our modest contribution to the golden jubilee of Oyo State. Beyond the celebrations, we believe it is important to give back to the people in a way that touches their daily lives. Accessible healthcare is a right, not a privilege,” he said.

The council chairman further reaffirmed the commitment of the Oluyole Local Government to the development agenda of Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the outreach as a reflection of the governor’s people-centred approach to governance and emphasis on inclusive growth.

According to him, the local government remains fully aligned with the Makinde administration’s vision of building strong institutions, improving social services, and ensuring that development reaches every segment of the population, particularly at the grassroots where government impact is most directly felt.

He added that the council would continue to prioritise programmes that support the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in areas of health, education, poverty reduction, and social inclusion, noting that local governments play a critical role in translating state policies into tangible outcomes for citizens.

“Our responsibility at the local level is to ensure that the vision of the state government is felt in homes and communities.

“This medical outreach speaks to our resolve to support the governor’s sustainable development agenda through practical, life-improving initiatives,” he said.

Medical personnel at the outreach, he said, will provide services including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, malaria testing and treatment, eye screening, and general medical advice.

Beneficiaries will also be educated on preventive healthcare practices and lifestyle management.

Olatunji said the Oluyole LG medical outreach is one of several grassroots-focused activities being carried out across the state to commemorate Oyo State’s 50 years of creation.

He said the move reaffirms a renewed commitment to sustainable development, responsive governance, and improved quality of life for residents.
