Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, a respected political leader and one of the senior figures in Oyo State politics, has stated that he should no longer be addressed as a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Olopoeyan on a WhatsApp call with Westerndailes correspondent explained that he has not yet decided which political party to join after leaving the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The Oyo political heavyweight made the clarification in reaction to public comments following the circulation of viral photographs showing him with some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the United Kingdom.

Olopoeyan, who made a stopover in the UK after a recent tour of the United States, was said to have met with prominent APC figures including the former First Lady of Oyo State, Chief (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi, Senator Teslim Folarin, and others.

When asked whether his meeting with APC chieftains is a sign that he is planning to join the party, Olopoeyan dismissed the speculation.

“Meeting with APC chieftains doesn’t mean I am joining the APC. As of now, I am not in any political party, but soon, my decision will be made known,” he said.

He added that referring to him as a PDP chieftain is now inaccurate.

“Addressing me as a PDP chieftain doesn’t count anymore,” Olopoeyan concluded.
