The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has firmly dismissed insinuations of any planned suspension, harassment, or victimisation of members of the 10th Assembly following recent political developments in the state.

Speaking during the resumed plenary session on Tuesday, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin reassured lawmakers that the leadership of the Assembly remains committed to upholding democratic principles, equity, and fairness in the conduct of legislative business.
However, he cautioned that the legislative institution would not tolerate any attempt to exploit it for undue political gain.

“The leadership of the OYHA understands the mandate given to it from our various constituencies. Categorically speaking, on behalf of the House leadership, no one is going to be victimised based on recent happenings,” the Speaker said.

The Speaker noted that with the election season approaching, some individuals may seek to stir unnecessary controversy to gain attention from their political parties.
Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin warned against using the Assembly as a platform to generate sympathy or publicity, particularly by lawmakers who have failed to fulfill their legislative duties.
“If any member is trying to gain sympathy from his political party, he or she should not use the legislative institution. Go back to your constituency, move motions, attend oversight functions, relate well, canvass and facilitate projects, and perform your legislative duties,” he said.

While affirming that the Assembly does not intend to sanction anyone arbitrarily, the Speaker stressed that the authority of the House must be respected.
“Despite our plan not to victimise anybody, members should not take the authority of the House for granted.”
Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin also used the opportunity to highlight key economic achievements under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, particularly in the areas of debt management and revenue generation.
He noted that Oyo State has recorded increased Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) without raising taxes, and currently has the lowest foreign debt profile in the South West region according to data from the Debt Management Office (DMO).
“Lagos State has the highest internal debt in the South West, while Oyo State is fourth. This shows the financial discipline of the current administration,” the Speaker added.
He concluded by reaffirming that the Oyo State House of Assembly remains a responsible and independent institution and urged all members to focus on impactful representation rather than political distractions.
