Nutrition Experts Applaud Gov. Makinde’s Healthcare Initiatives, for the Appointment of Dr. Fagbemi As Chairman OYSHMB

…As Dr. Fagbemi highlighted the importance of nutritionists in the healthcare sector

The president of Nutrition Society of Nigerian(NSN) Professor Salisu Abubakar and the two past president of the association was on an official visit to the management of the Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board(OYSHMB) to congratulate the chairman on his appointment and to strengthen existing relationship between the state hospitals management board and the Nutrition Association.

In his opening remarks,the chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board,Dr. Akin Fagbemi applauded the Nutrition Society of Nigerian leadership for the visit to the state.

Dr. Fagbemi said under his leadership the nutrition department of the board has been able to upscale the nutrition clinic from 5 to 19 clinic within the hospital management board.

He added that the Nutritionist plays some important role in the health sector therefore calling for a strengthen relationship between the board and the association.

The chairman also commended good leadership been played by the executive governor of the state Engr. Oluseyi Makinde FNSE in the provision of qualitative, accessible and affordable health care services to the people of Oyo state citing the recruitment of Nutrition officer in the OYSHMB and PHCB which increase the number of Nutritionist in the state to 72 and ongoing Omi-Tuntun Free Health Mission across the 33 local government areas of Oyo state.

The President of the Nutrition Society of Nigerian(NSN), Professor Salisu Abubakar congratulated Dr. Fagbemi on his appointment as the chairman of the state hospitals management board and commended him on his efforts so far in making sure people enjoy quality health care services as regards secondary health facilities in the state.

He added that the visit is part of the measure to strengthen the existing relationship between the association and the OYSHMB.

The former President therefore used the opportunity to pray for successful tenure and a peaceful coexistence between the OYSHMB and NSN.

In his address, One of the past president of the association who was also one time commissioner for Science and Technology in Edo state, Professor Bartholomew Brai praises Gov. Makinde for the people oriented policies the present govt has been putting in place citing example of what happened during the era of COVID 19 in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

The Permanent Secretary of the board,Dr. Anifat Ibraheem while delivering her vote of thanks said the board is ever ready to collaborate with any organisation, corporate body or individual with various life saving and people oriented programmes.

Present during the visit were the chairman of the board(OYSHMB) Dr. Akin Fagbemi,the Permanent Secretary Dr. Anifat Ibraheem, Directors in the board while on the part of the NSN were President of the association Professor Salisu Abubakar,,the former President Professor Afolabi Wasiu, A former commissioner of Science and Technology who is also a former president of NSN, Professor Bartholomew Brai, Professor Folake Samuel,Dr. Oluwaseun Ariyo and State Nutrition Officer,Mrs Oladeji Omolara.
