Mr. Femi Onireti has urged politicians and Nigerians in general to be inculcated with the spirit of selflessness exemplified by late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and other pro-democracy activists to provoke national rebirth.

Onireti, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP gave this charge Thursday in a statement he issued to commemorate the 2025 Democracy Day today June 12.

He noted that the aforementioned Nigerian and others, some of whom are late paid the supreme price in order to ensure correctness and that Nigeria would be liberated from the shackles of military government.

“As Nigeria marks the Democracy Day today June 12 l congratulate Nigerians. The democracy we enjoy today was birthed by some patriots who readily gave their lives to make it a reality chief of which is late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

“Chief Abiola won the freest and fairest election in Nigeria to be President but the election was wickedly annulled by the forces of retrogression. But Abiola along with the pro-democracy activists notably NADECO members stood against the anti-democratic forces led by the military, while they intensified the struggle for return to democracy and validation of the June 12 1993 election won by Late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

”They committed everything into the fight just to ensure the voices of Nigerians count. They spurned monetary gratification and high offices and many of them passed on in the struggle including wife of late Abiola, Chief Mrs. Kudirat Abiola.

“For Nigeria to be ushered into the path of prosperity we must go back to the basics and imbibe the spirit of sacrifices as found in these patriots. Without eschewing selfishness Nigeria cannot evolve into greatness. We must emulate the architects of our present democracy for us to enjoy development and prosperity.”

He assured the “Femi Onireti brand is forever guided by this spirit of selfless service to impact life. We will not derail. We are committed to serving and this we will do more when we realised our goal of representing Ogbomoso Federal Constituency. Happy Democracy Day.
