A lawmaker in Oyo State, representing Ido state constituency, Hon. Rasaq Adekunle Mabaje has penned a new year greeting to his constituents describing it as a new era of hope.

His good will message was contained in a statement personally signed by him and made available to newsmen on Monday.

The lawmaker said while the good people of Ido constituency have achieved a great deal, they should not, however, mark this New Year in a spirit of self congratulation, but rather as an occasion for calm and sober reflection.

According to Mabaje, 2023 saw many new infrastructure developments in Ido Local Government including the Omi adio to Ido road, Ido to Eruwa road, Akala to owode road, the concrete road from apete to Akufo among others that will be coming up soon.

He added that Construction of Schools, the modernization of Akufo farm settlement were also part of the projects initiatives by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo, Engr Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde (FNSE), stressing that it was also in 2023, that the rehabilitation of Olusoji Avenue road that will link Alao Akala expressway was awarded coupled with the Governor pronouncement on the construction of new ultra modern market in Omo Adio.

The statement read: “A New Year is upon us. A New Year that could usher in a new era of hope for all people of Ido state Constituency While we have achieved a great deal, we should not, however, mark this New Year in a spirit of self congratulation, but rather as an occasion for calm and sober reflection. We need to take stock of the tasks and challenges that still lie ahead. Yet it is an index of the advances we have made that the opportunity to set ido firmly on the road to development is with us.

“2023 saw many new infrastructure developments in our Local Government, the Omi adio to Ido road, Ido to Eruwa road, Akala to owode road, the concrete road from apete to Akufo and others that will be coming up soon, Construction of Schools, the modernization of Akufo farm settlement, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo, Engr Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde (FNSE) had done well with us, it was also in 2023, that the rehabilitation of Olusoji Avenue road that will link Alao Akala expressway was awarded coupled with the Governor pronouncement on the construction of new ultra modern market in Omo Adio. In 2024, the people of Wire and cable to Agbofieti should be expectant of the total construction of there road as it had been included in this year budget and which I will pursue with every blood in me. It should also be noted by the people of Elebu to orita-merin in ward 10 that the construction of that road is paramount and important, the measurements had been taken by the ministry of public works and others therein. It is my responsibility to lobby and push for the development of my constituency.

“Let us begin this New Year by resolving not to perpetuate divisions, hatred, the methodology of this belongs to Paul and the other to Apollo and language groups, which are the show of shame inhabited in the outgone year, but to act as one big PDP family in ido, ready and willing to work together. The year 2024 is a year of Local Government Elections and we must unite to have a formidable Campaign, Let us seize this opportunity to make a new beginning by creatively harnessing what is best in our past to build for the future. There is a role and place for everyone in our Local Government, Let us set aside narrow sectoral and party political interests to serve the greater interest that will guarantee a future of peace, stability and prosperity for all.

“To the extent that we all do this, 2024 can indeed become a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

“During Christmas and New Year, we dedicated to peace and goodwill to all, I appeal to all the leaders of our people and party, be they in the political parties,the Community leaders, the Religion leaders, womens’ or youth organisations, to spare no effort to make the Peace Accord work and bring peace into our party for the sake of our children, for the future of our Local Government and to ensure that the democratic order so many have sacrificed so much to achieve is not still-born.
