In a remarkable show of unity and strategic foresight, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan North Local Government has adopted Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as DON, as the party’s consensus candidate for the upcoming bye-election into the Federal House of Representatives for Ibadan North Federal Constituency.

The decision was reached at a high-level meeting held with the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the seven aspirants vying for the party ticket.

The consensus arrangement reflects a collective agreement to present a united front ahead of the bye-election.

Before the decisive meeting with Governor Makinde, all seven aspirants had engaged in a strategic meeting with key PDP stakeholders in Ibadan North Local Government. During these discussions, the aspirants expressed their commitment to supporting any candidate selected through a fair and inclusive process.

The aspirants include:

Hon. Kazim Adeyinka Adeniyi Bibire (Ward 1)
Hon. Kabiru Salami De-Bomba (Ward 2)
Hon. Waheed Akanbi Biro (Ward 3)
Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle DON (Ward 4)
Hon. Lanre Sarumi (Ward 7)
Hon. Kamorudeen Oladimeji Olayinka (Ward 8)
Hon. Taiwo Lekan Salami (Ward 10)
Hon. Matthew Alani Oyeniyi (Ward 12)
At the pivotal meeting with the Governor, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle DON, who serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, emerged as the consensus candidate.

In a commendable act of sportsmanship and loyalty to the party, the other six aspirants graciously stepped down and pledged their full support to his candidacy.

The meeting was attended by notable PDP leaders and stakeholders including the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and a prominent figure from Ibadan North, Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi; Senior Executive Assistant to the Governor, Chief Bayo Lawal; Oyo state PDP party secretary, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke and respected Ibadan North PDP chieftain, Baba Ismail Ashipa.
