Lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East, Rep. Abass Adigun (Agboworin), has urged Nigerians, especially the youths to prioritize a drug-free lifestyle, as the world commemorates the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking today.

Agboworin, a two term lawmaker and Chairman, House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, in a statement made available by his Media Group in Ibadan, noted that drug abuse has far-reaching consequences, affecting not only individuals but also families, communities, and the nation at large.

He lamented that the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals, including health problems, mental health disorders, and increased risk of addiction, adding that “they can lead to social issues, such as family breakdown, crime, and economic instability.”

The lawmaker emphasized the importance of collective action in combating drug abuse, urging Nigerians to say no to drugs and yes to life, promoting a culture of health, wellness, and productivity.

Agboworin also called on government agencies, civil society organizations, and community leaders to work together to address the root causes of drug abuse and provide support for those affected.

Similarly, he stressed the need to empower youths with the knowledge and skills to make informed choices about their lives.
