*PRESS STATEMENT*
As traders at Orita Aperin market in Ibadan count their losses over the fire outbreak, which razed down their shops, the member of House of Representatives representing Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency, Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin, on Thursday, expressed his sympathy for the victims over the unfortunate incident.
The inferno, which occured recently, had left behind destruction and despair as goods and valuables worth millions of Naira have been lost.
Agboworin, who is also the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Narcotic Drugs, expressed his sympathy in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Ibadan, stating that the fire incident was devastating and destabilizing, having disrupted commercial activities in the market.
While explaining that there is a need for traders to show caution in the harmattan season and usage of electrical appliances, he emphatized that such occurence would not happen again in the market.
The Rep. Member added that the current moment of loss is not only a setback for the affected traders but the entire community and, by extension, the Federal Constituency.
The statement read, “The news of the gutted Orita-Aperin market is a very heart-wrenching one. Undoubtedly, I feel so sad about it and emphatize with the victims.
“Why I regard it as most unfortunate is because this grievous occurence has put a stop to commercial activities, which has made the source of livelihood for the victims to be placed on hold for a while.
“I want to pray that this market and community will not experience an occurence like this again so that losses would not be more counted than profits.
“This is not only a setback for the victims of the circumstance but also for the entire community and Countituency at large.
“Having said that, I like us to be careful with the way we handle our appliances and connections. This is very important to forestall future occurence of same incident.”
