The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, has advised newly deployed corps members to focus on discovering their potential as problem solvers, rather than relying solely on certificates.
Addressing the 2025 Batch B Stream 1 corps members at the council secretariat, Akande emphasized that today’s economy rewards individuals who create solutions through skills, creativity, and innovation.
Akande urged corps members to build on existing skills and those acquired during orientation to become employers of labor.
He also emphasized the importance of upholding strong moral values and becoming good ambassadors of the country.
“The economy of today rewards those who create solutions through skills, creativity, and innovation rather than depending only on white-collar jobs,” he said.
The chairman assured corps members that Ibadan Southwest is one of the safest local governments in Nigeria, urging them to remain security-conscious.
He promised that the council would prioritize the welfare of corps members throughout their service year, ensuring they have a smooth and productive experience.
Akande praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s youth-friendly policies, stating that corps members would want to remain in Oyo State after their service due to available opportunities.
“Governor Seyi Makinde’s policies are designed to empower youths and provide them with opportunities for growth and development,” he said.
The event featured prayers and a vote of thanks from a corps member. Key officials in attendance included the Director of Education, Mrs. Oluwayanju Justina, and other directors.
The officer in charge of NYSC at the secretariat, council dignitaries, and serving corps members were also present, underscoring the importance of the occasion.
By emphasizing self-discovery, skill development, and moral values, Akande’s advice aims to equip corps members with the tools they need to succeed in their service year and beyond.
