As the world is going digital, and with what appears to be a future prediction with the recent directive of the federal government of Nigeria urging the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to transition its exams to Computer-Based Testing (CBT), the lawmaker representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, Hon. (Dr.) Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, has completed a state-of-the-art computer laboratory at Igboora Grammar School, Oke Ayin, Igboora, to boost digital literacy and improve the constituency’s test/performance score, level of education attainment and awareness of global trends.

The construction of the computer lab, facilitated by Hon. Adepoju in February this year, was carried out by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) through the Federal Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy.
The Digital Learning Centre was well equipped with furniture as well as digital equipment, such as desktop computers, each with a keyboard and mouse; air conditioners to cool and dehumidify indoor air and create a more comfortable temperature for the facility’s users; solar-powered lights to ensure a constant and uninterrupted power supply at the facility; a finger touch teaching monitor to track and monitor every activity in the centre; fans; central processing units; printers, photocopy machines and others.

The officials of NITDA, who are grounded in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), also took their time to train a reasonable number of teachers in the school in the protective, preventive and corrective maintenance of the centre.

Expressing his joy, the principal of the school, Mr. Taiwo Obe, thanked Hon. Adepoju for the laudable project, saying that the impact of the facility will be far-reaching and will begin to be felt immediately. He said that the project would not only enhance computer literacy in the community but also provide a platform for skill acquisition, research and more.

In his own words, Hon. Adepoju stressed that the project was in line with His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde’s roadmap for sustainable development. He said all he did was complement the development strides his leader and mentor had made in the area of education and digital literacy for the good people of Oyo State.
The Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Character also thanked the federal government of Nigeria for making it possible for him to facilitate the project in his constituency.
He, however, urged the school authority, where the facility is located, and the members of the public who are the end-users of the computer lab to make good use of the digital centre so that it serves its purpose.
