The Ibarapa Central Local Government hosted a transformative campaign against gender-based violence, themed “A Time to Act.” The event, held today Thursday 12th of December, 2024 at the Methodist Grammar School Hall, was organized under the auspices of the office of the wife of the Governor of Oyo State, Mrs. Olufunke Makinde. This initiative forms part of a larger statewide effort targeting all 33 local government areas in Oyo State to address the pervasive issue of gender-based violence.

In her opening remarks, the Chairperson of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Mrs. Adeleke Olusola Adebimpe, lauded the First Lady for her visionary leadership and relentless commitment to addressing gender-based violence. She noted that Mrs. Olufunke Makinde efforts were a beacon of hope, aiming to create safer and more inclusive communities across the state.

The program featured two prominent guest speakers. Comrade Abiodun Adegbagbo, a health officer expert, delivered an eye-opening presentation on the far-reaching health implications of gender-based violence. Superintendent Mrs. Oyebukola Babalola of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) provided critical insights into security measures and prevention strategies, equipping attendees with actionable steps to safeguard themselves and their communities.

An interactive session enriched the event as participants posed pressing questions and received comprehensive responses from the experts. This segment underscored the importance of knowledge-sharing in addressing gender-based violence at its roots.

The campaign ended with a resounding call for unity and immediate action. Stakeholders and attendees resolved to work together to eliminate gender-based violence and nurture a culture of respect, equality, and safety within the community.
