A devastating stampede at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, has claimed the lives of 35 children and left several others injured. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, December 18, at the Islamic School in Bashorun, Ibadan.

Mayegun Sunday Olusegun Babanumi, a PDP chieftain and convener of the Sunday Olusegun Babanumi Initiative (S.O.B.I.), has commiserated with Governor Seyi Makinde and the affected families.

Babanumi praised the governor’s swift response to the incident, which has brought some comfort to the grieving families.

The funfair was intended to be a joyful event for children. However, the large crowd and lack of adequate measures led to the tragic stampede.

Babanumi advised future event organizers to prioritize health and security measures to prevent such tragedies.

He also called for a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
