Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, officially commissioned the Ibadan Central Bus Terminals 1 and 2, located at Iwo Road, under the administration of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde FNSE Dsc GSSRS.

The commissioning marks another milestone in Oyo State’s transformation agenda, as the twin ultra-modern terminals stand as symbols of order, efficiency, and progress in the state’s public transportation system.
Speaking at the event, Chief Obasanjo commended Governor Makinde for what he described as “a visionary and people-centered investment that prioritizes comfort, safety, and economic growth.”

“When a government focuses on projects that touch the lives of ordinary people, such government deserves commendation. What I see here today reflects leadership of purpose, discipline, and foresight. Oyo State is truly setting the pace again,” Obasanjo stated.

In his remarks, Governor Seyi Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building sustainable infrastructure that connects communities, boosts commerce, and improves the quality of life for citizens.
“Our goal has always been to make Oyo State the economic and investment hub of the Southwest. These twin terminals are part of a broader plan to modernize transportation, decongest roads, and create a better experience for both commuters and operators,” Makinde said.
The Ibadan Central Bus Terminals 1 and 2 are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including administrative offices, restaurants, retail shops, a cinema, and secure loading bays — all designed to ensure efficiency, safety, and comfort for travelers Muftau Open said.

According to Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, Chairman of the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency, the project reflects Governor Makinde’s results-driven governance model.
“The terminals are not just structures; they are reflections of accountability, innovation, and a deep commitment to public service. This is how we measure performance — by the visible impact on the lives of our people,” he noted.
The newly commissioned terminals are expected to serve as major transport hubs for intra- and inter-state movement, reducing traffic congestion across Ibadan while stimulating local commerce and job creation. Beyond boosting economic activity, the modernized system is projected to reduce carbon emissions by encouraging the use of public transportation, aligning with Oyo State’s sustainability goals under the Makinde administration.
