History was made on January 3, 2025, as the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government, Hon. Lawal Lateef Akorede, successfully disbursed bursary awards to students, ending a 14-year absence of such intervention in the local government.

The landmark initiative brought overwhelming joy to beneficiaries, many of whom had waited years for financial support from the local government.

The bursary disbursement marks a new chapter in student welfare and youth empowerment in Ibarapa North.

The revival of the bursary scheme underscores Hon. Akorede’s strong commitment to education and human capital development.

Students present at the event expressed deep appreciation, describing the initiative as timely and impactful in easing the financial burden associated with higher education.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Lawal Lateef Akorede reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to education:

“Education is the bedrock of development, and I am committed to ensuring that our students have access to the resources they need to succeed.

This bursary award is just one of several initiatives we have planned to support our students and empower them to become leaders of tomorrow.”

Student leaders across various associations lauded the chairman for the historic intervention.

The FOTSU President described the initiative as commendable, noting that it reflects true leadership and investment in the future of the youth.

Similarly, Comrade Basit Olanrewaju, President of the National Association of Ibarapa Students (NAIS), said:

“We appreciate Hon. Lawal Lateef Akorede for the revival of the bursary scheme.

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest achievements of this administration, as the last time students benefited from such support was about 15 years ago. Having this opportunity during our administration is something we are truly delighted about.”

Also speaking, Comrade Muiz Olamilekan, President of the Federation of Ayete Students Union (FASU), emphasized the long-term impact of the gesture:

“The impact of this bursary award on students cannot be underestimated.

On behalf of all students, I express our heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Lawal Lateef Akorede for this generous gesture. This initiative is a testament to his commitment to students’ welfare.”

In his remarks, the chairman also commended Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his transparent leadership and consistent support for youth and students across the state.

He further praised PDP members and executives in Ibarapa North for their continued cooperation and support.

As celebrations continue, students and community stakeholders have called on other leaders to emulate this noble commitment to education and youth development, expressing optimism for more impactful initiatives in the future.
