Oyo State has been ranked as the best state to live in Nigeria, according to the 2025 State Performance Index (pSPI) report. The report, which assesses the quality of life and livability across different states in Nigeria, cited the state’s strong infrastructure, urban amenities, and perceived safety as key factors contributing to its top ranking.

The pSPI report notes that Akwa Ibom and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) closely follow Oyo State in the rankings, making them equally desirable places to reside.

Top 3 States

1. Oyo State
2. Akwa Ibom State
3. Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

On the other hand, Zamfara, Anambra, and Bayelsa States ranked lowest in the livability index, primarily due to insecurity and underdevelopment issues.

Bottom 3 States

1. Zamfara State
2. Anambra State
3. Bayelsa State

The report highlights that states with strong infrastructure, urban amenities, and perceived safety ranked higher, while those associated with insecurity or underdevelopment saw higher rejection rates.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has been praised for its efforts in improving the state’s infrastructure and providing essential services to its citizens.
