GOVENOR SEYI MAKINDE: A Leader Transforming Oyo State….by hon Yinka Akinbiyi Ibadan south west local government

According to Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (1943), human beings have different levels of needs, ranging from basic physiological needs to self-actualization. Governor Seyi Makinde has demonstrated a remarkable understanding of this concept, prioritizing the needs of Oyo State citizens in various sectors.

In Agriculture, Governor Makinde has implemented initiatives to boost food production and security, meeting the physiological needs of the people (Maslow’s Tier 1).

He has also constructed over 200km of roads, enhancing connectivity and accessibility, thereby meeting the safety needs of the people (Maslow’s Tier 2).

In Education, Governor Makinde has made significant strides, improving infrastructure, teacher training, recruitment of 7000 teachers, still about to employ another set of 7000 teachers to both secondary and primary sectors and student welfare,about to start reconstruction of over 750 dilapidated buildings in primary schools throughout the state, fulfilling the love and belonging needs of the people (Maslow’s Tier 3).

Furthermore, he has advanced infrastructure development, including healthcare facilities, particularly in primary healthcare in all 351 wards, addressing the esteem needs of the people (Maslow’s Tier 4).

As philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BCE) said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Governor Makinde’s consistent excellence in governance is a testament to his commitment to the people.

Philosopher John Locke (1632-1704) emphasized, “The purpose of government is to protect life, liberty, and property.” Governor Makinde has demonstrated this purpose, ensuring the well-being and prosperity of Oyo State citizens.

Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) wrote, “The moral worth of an action is determined by its maxim, not its consequences.” Governor Makinde’s actions are guided by a strong moral compass, prioritizing the greater good.

Finally, as Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) said, “Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is free to choose.” Governor Makinde has chosen to serve the people of Oyo State with dedication and excellence.
